Our History
Building Trust, One Policy at a Time
From our humble beginnings to becoming a trusted name in Florida, Ted Todd Insurance has grown alongside our clients and communities. Our journey is one of commitment to providing personalized, reliable coverage with a modern approach.

Pre 1985
Raised in Oakland City, Indiana, Ted grew up on a farm growing watermelons, tomatoes, and cantaloupes, and raising pigs and cattle. At 21, he left college and proceeded to operate several small businesses over the next 10 years: Tresslers, Ben Franklin, and other self-branded stores. He was learning business management from the ground floor up and gradually assumed several leadership roles in his community. At 27, while working full-time and with a growing family at home, Ted returned to college. Then, frustrated by ever-increasing advantages of his big-box competitors, Ted decided to consider other career options.

1985 - 1986
Ted moves to Cape Coral, Florida, buys a renters policy from a Sears booth at Edison Mall, and is prompted to interview for an insurance job by an agent. He does, and embarks on a 16 weekend insurance course. Late the following year, he wrote his first auto policy.

1989
Ted opens his first office, a 500-square-foot room in a Barnett Bank. Soon after, takes the leap from employee to agency owner.

1994
Ted is awarded Top Life Agency out of 140,000. The following year becomes one of only three agents allowed to open a second office. His wife, Marilyn, becomes an Appointed Insurance Agent for the firm. She quickly becomes #1 in Florida for Auto production and is named Agent of the Year.

1996 - 1997
Ted is one of only 34 Insurance Agents inducted into the Hall of fame as a charter member. He makes the decision to open an office in sleepy but developing Estero, Florida, the site of Florida Gulf Coast University and South Florida International Airport, and the construction of many new businesses.

2022
Carlos Miranda is named CEO of Ted Todd Insurance during a pivotal time for Florida and its communities. Just as Hurricane Ian- a Category 4 storm with sustained winds reaching 150 mph- made landfall and caused catastrophic damage across the state, Carlos stepped into leadership with a clear mission: to evolve TTI into a truly customer-centric organization. Recognizing the urgent need for stronger support and connection, Carlos led the charge in bringing employees back into the office to improve communication and collaboration. He prioritized hiring team members who deeply understand Florida’s unique risks, individuals who could act quickly, speak with empathy, and guide customers through the entire claims process with care. That year, Ted Todd himself worked seven days a week to assist thousands of clients with their claims, setting a standard of hands-on service and dedication that continues to define the agency’s culture. Under Carlos’s leadership, this moment marked a true turning point- one that reshaped how TTI serves, supports, and stands with its customers when they need it most.
2024
The unprecedented occurrence of two major hurricanes, Milton and Helene, impacted Florida. Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 140 mph, caused approximately $78.7 billion in damage. Hurricane Milton, a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 120 mph, resulted in about $34.3 billion in damages. Drawing from our extensive experience with previous storms, our agents were well-prepared to assist clients efficiently, leveraging their knowledge and resources to facilitate swift recovery.

2025- Beyond
